Roatán Honduras, a paradise for divers (and for everyone else)

I never thought I'd find myself on a plane to Honduras, but after a few emails with some friends I had made while in Belize, I found myself planning a trip to the island of Roatan.  I wasn't sure what to expect ,all I knew was that it was supposed to be beautiful and cheap. Turns out, it's both! If you're looking for a tropical paradise without spending your life savings, Roatan is the place for you. This beautiful island is located in the Caribbean Sea and is known for its stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, and lush rainforest. Trust me , you won't regret booking a trip here!

Most people go to the tropics for the sun and sand, but I went for the sharks. Roatan is one of the most beautiful places on Earth, with crystal clear water and a stunningly green landscape. But it's also home to nurse sharks, bull sharks, Caribbean reef sharks, and hammerheads (not to mention barracudas, moray eels, and sea turtles). If you're brave enough (or crazy enough) to get in the water with them, diving or snorkeling here is an experience you'll never forget. Just be careful not to fall in love ,Roatan's got a bit of a bite!

This stunning island has everything you could want - crystal-clear waters, white sand beaches, and a vibrant culture. Here are the top five things to do on Roatan:

  1. Snorkel or scuba dive in the world's second largest coral reef system. Snorkeling and scuba diving are two of the most popular water sports in the world. And for good reason, both offer amazing opportunities to explore vibrant coral reefs and see a wide variety of exotic marine life. If you're looking for an incredible diving or snorkeling experience, look no further than Roatan. With its stunningly clear waters and diverse coral reef system, Roatan is a top spot for divers and snorkelers of all levels of experience.
  2. Take a sailing trip or catamaran cruise around the island. Island life is all about enjoying the simple things: the sun, the sand, and the sea. And there's no better way to experience all of that than by hopping on a sailboat or catamaran and cruising around Roatan. Whether you're looking for a peaceful day out on the water or some fun-filled excitement, these sailing trips have something for everyone. So grab your sunscreen and sunglasses, and get ready to set sail! (PS – don't forget to bring your camera!)

   3.  Zip line through the rainforest canopy. When I told my family and friends that I was going zip lining through the rainforest canopy in Roatan Honduras, their reactions were all pretty much the same: they looked at me like I had lost my mind. "You're doing what? Aren't you afraid of heights?" they would ask. But to me, zip lining sounded like the perfect way to experience the rainforest up close and personal – and I was definitely not afraid of heights! In fact, I was looking forward to it. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. Zip lining through the rainforest canopy is an adventure like no other. You feel like a badass adventurer soaring through the trees, and it's an adrenaline rush like no other.

  1. Relax on one of Roatan's beautiful beaches. If you're looking for a place to relax and take in some beautiful scenery, look no further. With its crystal-clear waters and sandy beaches, Roatan is the perfect place to soak up some rays and enjoy the tropical climate. Soak up the sun on West Bay Beach, or explore the island's many other attractions. Whatever you choose to do, you're sure to have a great time on Roatan's beaches!

  1. Sample the delicious local cuisine. Food is the heart and soul of a culture. It is the centerpiece of social gatherings and a way to connect with others. When you explore a new place, tasting the local cuisine is one of the best ways to experience that culture. Roatan, is no exception. From traditional dishes like carne asada to street food favorites like empanadas, there's something for everyone to enjoy in this Central American country. Roatan also known for its seafood, and there are plenty of restaurants to choose from. But if you're looking for something special, head to the west end of the island and try out one of the local joints. You won't be disappointed.

The island of Roatan is a must-see for anyone looking for an amazing tropical vacation. With crystal-clear water, white sand beaches, and plenty of activities to keep you busy, you'll be hard-pressed to find a better place to relax and recharge. Whether you're looking for some quiet time alone or want to explore all that the island has to offer with friends or family, Roatan is sure to please. Have you been to Roatan?
